It’s no question that we are living in a historical year. As COVID-19 shut down our cities, through our isolation and quarantine have we been able to assess the state of our societies and our roles within them. It’s no wonder then that for the majority of us, our reflections on the world have awakened us to examine the systemic injustice towards members of our own communities. While those of us with immense privilege have had our eyes opened only recently, it’s activists like Tamika Mallory who have made it their mission to fight these injustices. Tamika is bold, empowered, fierce, and inspiring.

Born in New York City, Tamika got started as an activist at a young age and her career has blossomed into working with political leaders, founding her own company, and organizing major movements such as the Women’s March in 2017. I must admit, that I’m a recent fan of Tamika’s, though. It’s through her recent #blacklivesmatter work that I have developed a strong tie to her leadership. She’s been incredibly vocal and active to amply voices and incite change on behalf victims of police brutality such as George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. Even though it’s not her direct responsibility to educate the masses on racial injustice, her social media presence has become an incredible resource for me to turn to when I need to understand what the just and fair course of action is.

The future for Tamika is incredibly bright. I’m excited to see how she continues to be a bright light of hope within a dark world.
