#WCW: The US Women's National Soccer Team

If you’re like me, sports have never been of major interest. Sure it’s impressive to see these athletes in action. It’s definitely a privilege to watch these people who have trained their whole careers for big games, but I’m more of a sports “vibe” girl. I head for the drinks and snacks table a super bowl watch party. I much prefer to laugh and cheer and explore stadiums with my friends than just post up and watch the entire game. You get it. All of that changes, though, when I watch the World Cup tournaments. I’m into it. I know the players, their stats, their histories, the significance of why they are in that game at that time against that opponent. Now that the US Women’s National Team is dominating the global tournament in France this year I couldn’t NOT include them as this week’s #WCW (especially since we’re feeling all sorts of patriotism this week as well). These ladies are all incredible - demonstrating stellar teamwork and rockstar sisterhood.

Although all of the women this year on the USWNT have been impressive, one, in particular, stands out as the true MVP of this tournament: Alyssa Naeher. After having benched behind Hope Solo for a significant portion of her national team career, she has risen to the occasion as the starting goaltender. Not only has she shown grit, dedication, and strength, but she also has made some incredible saves against other top-tier teams like France and England that proved to be vital in the US’s success in the tournament.
